ARCHAEOLOGY CENTER IN ERYTHRAI / ILDIRI
The Site Well embedded in the soft Mediterranean landscape of western Turkey, dotted with olive trees, and surrounded by hills which reach down to the sea, Ildırı is a settlement which has existed for thousands of years. Its most important findings date to the Hellenistic period and even suggest Phoenician presence dating back to 8th Century BC.
Findings have been brought to the surface by extensive excavations, which have turned the area surrounding the village into a vast archaeological site of great significance. In this challenging landscape, which juxtaposes the natural environment with the historical remains of human civilization, I designed an Archaeology Center. I explored the potential created both by the given site and the ideas relating to excavation/ history/ exhibition.
